What is a County Convention?
The County Convention is one of the most important organizing events in the North Carolina Democratic Party structure. According to the North Carolina Democratic Party Plan of Organization, its main purposes are:
Elect County Party Officers
Chair, First Vice Chair, Second Vice Chair, Third Vice Chair, and Secretary. Treasure is appointed.
This happens in odd-numbered years (2025, 2027, etc) for a two-year term.
2. Elect State Executive Committee (SEC) Members: (Biannual Meetings)
Counties elect their allotted SEC members based on the registered Democrats formula.
Terms are for two years and elected on odd years (2025, 2027, etc)
In 2026, we have one delegate in addition to the County Party Chair. Presidents of Affiliated Organizations (e.g., Democratic Women, Young Democrats, etc.) are Ex-Officio Members.

SEC Members attend the District Convention but are not automatic delegates
3. Elect Delegates to:
Congressional District Conventions: Elected Annually
In 2026, we elect 24 delegates for the May 16th District Convention in Monroe, NC
County Chair and 1st Vice-Chair are automatic members of the District Executive Committee, but not automatically a delegate. (Because our entire county is within our district, we do not elect District Executive Committee members.)
State Conventions: Elected in Even Years. This year we elect 26 Delegates.
Judicial District Conventions (where applicable)
4. Adopt Resolutions
Counties may propose and pass resolutions on policy, platform issues, or internal party matters.
These resolutions may advance to district or state conventions.
5. Conduct Party Business
Receive reports from county officers.
Review progress on organizing, fundraising, voter outreach, and elections.
Handle any other business relevant to the county party.
